I get asked all the time about getting a game worn jersey autographed and if it adds value to it or decrease it.
Well putting a $15 autograph on a $1000 jersey really doesn’t affect the value one way or another.
BUT what it does affect is the marketability of your jersey. Oh, I know it’s never leaving your collections, so I am going to have it autographed, I have heard that 100’s of times and I don’t ever believe that anymore. Why? Because I know the nature of a collecting beasts out there, next shinny object, boom there it goes up for sale.
What it does is limit your marketing of the jersey. Prior to having the player autograph it, you had 100% of the hobby who you can market it to. Then once autographed the jersey will drop to 35 to 85 % of the collectors, who do not want it autographed by the player.
Also having it signed behind the crest or on the fight strap maybe better to some collectors, but not to all, that’s why I say you the % is 30-85 % above.
